The Bathrooms of Caistor
An insight into the initial design process of the bathrooms of The Lodge & The Cottage by our in-house Designer, Kim.

Although not quite the hub of the home like the kitchen & living space, the bathrooms & en-suites are another huge factor when it comes to falling in (or out) of love with a property!
How many of us have left a bathroom or restroom with a distinct & lasting impression... good or bad?
So, designing the bathrooms & en-suites in way that made them feel like they were ‘dressed to impress’, yet still functional was super important to me.
Plot 1 - The Lodge
Starting with The Lodge (Plot 1), I loved the main bathroom space. There is plenty of room for separate bath & shower - perfect for keeping those relaxing 'bath, candles & book' evenings feeling extra luxurious!
To maintain the feeling of space, I chose a bath that has the pizazz of freestanding, but with the practicality of it having a side that fixes to the wall... utilising a long niche in the wall over the bath for easy-access storage of bathing products, or for decoration.
Not needing to clean behind the bath is just an added bonus!
A high-quality basin cabinet provides timeless elegance, whilst also hiding away any of the bathroom products that spoil the ambiance! With beautiful black-finish brassware that blends contemporary style with traditional features, the bathrooms feel modern & clean. But the herringbone tiles on the walls behind the bath, basin & in the shower enclosure add just the right amount of eye-catching detail to keep the bathroom feeling inviting. Pair with a neutral tone on the walls & you’ve got a beautiful, calming room.
The shower enclosure continues the overall theme of the house, emphasising the feeling of space with the large glass panels & minimal extrusions.
Attention to the little details was so important to me with the bathrooms - things like matching the brassware to complement the window finishes, along with ensuring the towel radiator is in harmony with the overall feel.
A bathroom has much asked of it throughout the day - a need to be functional... a need to be relaxing... a need to stand up to the chaos of 'hair-wash' nights or 'late-to-school' mornings. The main bathroom of The Lodge feels like it meets all these challenges and more!
The Ensuites
The Ensuites of The Lodge are both a little smaller than the main bathroom, but still feel like they have plenty to offer. With places for roomy showers, basin cabinets & the necessary wc, the aim was to save as much space as possible... while making sure they still felt luxury!
Built-in mirrors with a half wall behind the basin & toilet creates easy-access storage opportunities, along with a perch for the ever-popular plant - after all is a room really finished without a bit of greenery?
PLot 2 - The COttage
In The Cottage (Plot 2), I wanted to prove just how different a space could feel with a few alternative design choices.
Putting aside the minimal, monochrome feel of The Lodge's bathroom & ensuites, I embraced a bolder theme. Opting for opulent blue herringbone tiles, with the brass finishes on the trims, the bathroom & (unbelievably) large ensuite feel like they're tipping their hats to the decadent Art Deco period.
But, of course, the aim was to make sure they stood their own with modern features throughout!
The bathroom has all the same features as plot one' - the lodges’s did, with the opportunity for separate bath & shower again. Beautiful, yet practical storage beneath the basin & a wall-hung wc provide a feeling of flow & function, and a large mirror on the wall opposite the window helps enhance the light!
The Ensuite
This was where I felt The COttage stood out the most! The ensuite, whilst in the eaves of the chalet cottage, is such a beautiful space, with plenty of room for a walk-in shower, stand-alone bath, and his-and-her’s basins… this ensuite has the massive wow-factor!
With large velux windows providing lots of light, this space needed a focal point at the end of the room. So a walk in shower enclosure, with double-entry & a powerful overhead shower was a must!
This ensuite is going to make the early morning routine feel like a luxury spa night ritual for sure!
As with the kitchens (check out my post all about the initial design process of those!) the bathrooms & ensuites are available for customisation by future owners, with personalised upgrades & options available.
